Building Affordable Homes: It takes more than a Village…

Project partners gathered to celebrate the completion of a new,3-bedroom single family affordable homeownership opportunity and the creation of a single rental apartment in the Village of Hastings-On-Hudson.This is the most recent example of a nearly 30-year commitment on the part of Hastings to advocate for and help create affordable housing solutions in its Village. “In 1990 our Village Board pulled together a volunteer committee that led to the founding of a non-profit Housing Development Fund Corp. Today our work remains incredibly relevant as the need for affordable housing continues to escalate,” said Hastings-on-Hudson Affordable Housing Committee chair, Arthur Riolo.


It clearly takes morethan a village. In fact, Community Capital New York has been part of this comprehensive team of collaborators that includes the Hastings-On-Hudson Affordable HDFC, Inc., Housing Action Council, Westchester County and NYS Affordable Housing Corp. “We began working with Hastings in 2009 and since then, Community Capital New York has helped fund 30 affordable units through feasibility, pre-development and construction loans,” notes Kim Jacobs, President and CEO of Community Capital New York. Rose Noonan, Executive Director of Housing Action Council adds “it illustrates how a small village can pull together to facilitate the creation of affordable homes -a true model for many other towns and villages.”
